Company history

1960   Robert Hafter founds “English Antiques” in Elisabethenstrasse in Basel.
1966   A store opens in Zurich’s Zeltweg.
1970   A second store is opened in Basel, devoted to interior decorating.
1979   The Zurich location is moved to St. Peterstrasse in the centre of town.
1980   A first trip to the far east is followed by many annual shopping tours of Eastern Asia.
1981   A disused 19th-century mill is purchased in Birmensdorf to house workshops, store-rooms and exhibitions.
1990   Anatol and Natalie Hafter enter the family business, and gradually take over management.
1992   The Basel location is given up.
2007   The Birmensdorf building is renovated for loft space, and the workshops are moved to Adliswil.
2008   Company headquarters are moved from Zurich to Küsnacht.
2011   A store opens in Zurich Talacker 24.

HAFTER, a family business with tradition: the company founded by Robert Hafter in 1960 is today in its second generation, managed by the brother-and-sister team of Natalie Hafter Fischer and Anatol Hafter.
